The Oak Ridge Business Safety Partnership will host a community safety forum on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, 8:00 – 10:00 a.m., at the American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE) on Tulane Avenue in Oak Ridge.
Two dynamic speakers will be discussing Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP). The first presenter is Mr. Brad Davy, Director, Office of Worker Safety and Health Assistance, U.S. DOE. Mr. Davy’s topic is “VPP from the Headquarters Perspective and Safety Culture.” Dr. Eric Abelquist, Executive Vice President, Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) will expand upon the discussion with “Impacts of VPP on ORAU: The Local Perspective.” See additional information about the two speakers in the short bios below.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Networking at AMSE starts at 8:00 a.m. Coffee and bagels will be served. The program will start at 8:30 and will end promptly at 10:00.

Mr. Brad Davy
Bradley K. Davy is the Director of the Department of Energy’s Office of Worker Safety and Health Assistance. As such, he implements the DOE Voluntary Protection Program. Under his leadership, the DOE Voluntary Protection Program has significantly expanded to cover almost half the workers in the DOE Complex. Since assuming responsibility for the program in 2006, he has led assessments at all of the DOE-VPP participant sites, and established a reputation for conducting fair, honest, and challenging evaluations that establish high expectations for excellence. Previously, he performed Safety Management Evaluations with the Office of Independent Oversight and the Office of Nuclear Safety.
Dr. Eric Abelquist
Since 2009, Dr. Eric W. Abelquist has served as ORAU’s Executive Vice President. Abelquist joined ORAU in 1993 and was previously Vice President of the Independent Environmental Assessment and Verification Program. He has a doctorate in nuclear engineering and a master’s degree in radiological sciences and protection.
