David has worked for TOSHA for 17 years serving in the positions of Industrial Hygienist, Health Consultant, Occupational Safety Specialist, Safety Supervisor and most recently as VPP Manager. He has also worked in private industry as a Safety Specialist for an Automotive Parts Manufacturer and as an Industrial Hygienist for the PACE and USW International Unions.
In 1996 Bill Ferguson began his career in Industrial sales with Fastenal. In this position Bill managed a local territory focused on multi line industrial product sales. In 2009 Bill entered the Petrochemical Industry going to work for Guardian Compliance as an Environmental Field Technician. Bill quickly advanced to Site Supervisor and Mid-West Regional Manager. Bill’s primary responsibilities included implementing company safety objectives, regulatory compliance oversight, and adherence to company operational policies. In 2015 Bill assumed a leadership role with Total Safety as the In-Plant-Service-Center manager at the Valero Memphis refinery. In this role Bill supervises between 9-15 employees with the primary responsibility for maintaining gas detection, breathing air, and fire safety inspection, testing, and maintenance. Bill also has a number of employees who performed bottle watch, fire watch and confined space attendant duties. Under his leadership Total Safety at Valero Memphis become the first contractor at a host site to obtain the TN Volunteer Star. Bill strongly believes that safety is about coaching and mentoring employees to make good safety decisions on a daily basis. He counts his family and co-workers as the driving force behind him passionately working in the Petrochemical and Safety Service Industry.
John Pfeifer is the VPP/Safety Coordinator at the Valero refinery in Memphis. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Safety from Eastern Kentucky University. He is a state certified Industrial Fire Fighter and Hazardous Materials Technician with 20 years of refinery experience. John led the only petroleum refinery in the state to become a Volunteer Star Site in 2017. He is also an OSHA Special Government Employee (SGE). John is the Refinery Health and Safety Committee Chairperson with experience in refinery operations and maintenance. His primary responsibilities are to manage safety program improvements and employee involvement at the refinery as well as working with the contract companies that are on-site daily to attain Volunteer Star certification. John is a strong advocate for the Voluntary Protection Program who has seen the benefits of the program first hand and feels that every worksite can benefit from becoming a Volunteer Star Site.
