American Museum of Science and Energy – Oak Ridge

The Safety Forum is free and open to the public. Networking at AMSE starts at 8:00 a.m. Coffee and bagels will be served. The program will start at 8:30 and end promptly at 10:00.

Our speakers, from the MYR Group, will be Mr. Donnie Cook, Regional Safety Manager for the Southeast Region and Mr. Steve Cavanaugh, VP Corporate Safety.

MYR Group Inc safetyMr. Cook program will reinforce the importance of consistent, day-by-day adherence to safety at a personal and individual level. In 2012, he lost a son in an accident and knows from personal experience that it only takes one deviation from the rules to end a life and change others’ lives forever.

Mr. Cavanaugh will speak on the OSHA Electrical Transmission and Distribution (ET&D) Strategic Partnership. The ET&D Strategic Partnership is one of only a few national partnerships between employers and the federal job safety agency, and covers an estimated 80 percent of total workers in the line construction industry. As a member of the Partnership, MYR Group is actively involved in several different safety and health outreach and promotion activities.

Mr. Cook started his career in the electrical industry in 1980 in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and remains a member today. He worked at the Kennedy Space Center in the Space Shuttle Program where he served as the safety lead for Ground Operations. When the Shuttle Program came to a close Mr. Cook joined the L.E. Myers Co. where he currently serves as Regional Safety Manager. He has been closely involved with Region IV OSHA in the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), serving as a Special Government Employee (SGE) since 2003.

Mr. Cavanaugh has over 30 years’ experience in the “Power Line” sector of the electrical power industry. Steve has worked as a journeyman lineman, line supervisor and is presently the Vice President of Safety for the MYR Group, a national electrical power line contractor. Steve currently serves on the Steering Committee in the ET&D Partnership. Steve is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and currently calls “Rising Fawn Georgia” home.

L.E. Myers, established in 1891, is the oldest MYR Group subsidiary and is recognized as a premier electrical contractor of large utility construction projects across the nation, including three TVA nuclear plants located in the Southeast. As a member of the MYR Group, L.E. Myers now has industry-leading statistics with recordable annual incident rates that consistently fall well below the industry average rate.
